Learning Outcomes

  • Students will be able to construct mathematical proofs, making use of proper mathematical terminology and rules of logic, using a variety of proof techniques, including direct argument, proof by contradiction, and mathematical induction. 

  • Students will be able to solve applied mathematics problems using clear, well-written and accurate explanations throughout their solutions. 

  • (MAT concentration) Students will be able to explain middle and/or high school mathematical concepts orally and in writing, using multiple techniques, in a manner appropriate for a middle and/or high school audience. 

  • (MAG concentration) Students will be able to communicate advanced mathematical concepts clearly and precisely to an audience of peers and faculty. 

Program Requirements

Program Requirements

All students must satisfy a general education requirement consisting of ten (10) courses outside of the major department. The General Education Domain II-A (Analysis, Modeling, and Problem Solving) requirement is satisfied through the completion of the Mathematics major.

Middle and High School Math Teachers

Work in academic institutions to teach students different mathematical subjects.  

Budget Analyst

Review budget proposals and determine company spend on projects, services or products.  

Insurance Underwriter

Evaluate applications for mortgages, insurance and loans to determine risk factors. 

Financial Analyst

Monitor, examine and forecast a company's financial status and recommend improvements. 

Actuary

Help companies manage financial risks and minimize losses.
